Dinner: Minestronne al Can.

This is one of my favorites.  Sometimes I just don’t feel like cooking, but still I want something nutritive and yummy to watch Game of Thrones. Luckily, I love soups (even hospital soups), and Minestrone combines best of both worlds: nutritive and delicious. It’s a cheap can, considering how big the meal ends up being. I would have this everyday if I didn’t remember that canned food is not actual food. It’s processed.

Ingredients:
1 Can of Minestrone.

Budget:
$ 2.99

Estimated Time Cook:
7 Mins.

How tasty it is: 9.5. This makes my mouth melts.

How healthy it is: 7. It is nutritive, and with 0% of Trans Fat it’s not a bad choice when you’re saving money.

Suggestions: Bread as a side.

PS: I use a Tupperware bowl because it contains the heat of the soup and it’s perfect to hold it on bed when you see the Red Wedding episode. Not a slip.

Lunch: Hot Dog Quesadillas.

Whenever I cook, there are always leftovers. But since I tend to get bored quickly of what I eat, I tend to use whatever I have left and make something else and new, and just as yummy. All while saving money. For this lunch I reused the wieners made a couple of posts ago to make quesadillas. Time is essential for me. I need this fast.

Ingredients:
2 Tortillas Wrap
Cheese (Swiss, Cheddar, Pepper Jack and Mozzarella)

Budget:
$ 10

Estimated Time Cook:
10 Mins.

How tasty it is: 7. This is a free interpretation of quesadillas; so don’t expect it to taste like actual Mexican food. It is really good, although I prefer it with chicken. The onions and soy sauce may give the stuffing a strong flavor, so you might prefer a thicker bread like pita bread.

How healthy it is: 7. As I mentioned, I don’t think wieners are very healthy, however they are a great source of protein and carbs and it’s important to feel you are eating well, even if it’s not really like that. But I stick to experience, and I’ve been doing quite well with them.

Suggestions: You can replace and use any kind of cheese of preference, although I prefer Gouda. Also you can add Sour Cream, Avocado and/or lettuce or arugula.

Breakfast: Cereal Love with Banana and Strawberries.

Ingredients:
Cereal  with Almonds
Fat Free Milk
4 Strawberries
1 Banana

Budget:
$ 8

Estimated Time Cook:
1 Min.

How tasty it is: 8. Banana in a cereal is not for everybody but I have gotten to love this fruit over the years and its combination with strawberry makes this breakfast a winner.

How healthy it is: 9. Banana is a great source of much needed protein in the mornings. A cereal with almonds will always elevate it to a double protein dose for those who work out.

Suggestions: You can replace Fat Free Millk for Almond Milk.

A must see. Especially if you live in America.

I saw this documentary a couple of years ago, just when I had gone back to Venezuela after being in America for 8 months. I couldn't believe what I was really eating here in the U.S. This made change my perspective of meat in general and the way it's processed. I felt very unhealthy and uncomfortable, so I decided to quit steak and eat less meat as possible, though I doubt I'll ever become a vegetarian. (Sorry, I like cheeseburgers too much)

Introducing...

This is the official site of a practical yet really tasty and oh, decently (towards mostly) healthy foodie. The recipes you will see on this site are all coming from the imagination of an amateur but experienced homemade cook with the sole intention to share (inserting copyrights here, ©). It is my goal to stay organic and avoid meat (I’ve already quit steak) and other over-processed food.  Why hipster? I don’t know. I’ll also post pictures of cats. Not really, though you might see a few unicorns. Oh yeah, I know them.  Hopefully everything in this blog will get better and prettier.

Anyway, this is for non-advising self-pleasure purposes. I’ll also post things regarded to non-food pleasures (sorry porn-foodies) and things I find mentally nurturing because not only belly must be fed. This is a lifestyle site based on an (still) unemployed lawyer who just wants world peace. I’m in my past half quarter of century, so it is likely that Tina Fey, Seinfeld, Cady Heron and Lena Dunham are the voices of my generation. Long life to beards.

Dinner
Porks and Beans Spaghetti

Ingredients:
1 Onion
4 Hot dogs
Spaghetti
Pepper
Salt
Corn beans
Ketchup
Soy Sauce
Cream Cheese
1 Tortilla Wrap

Budget:
$ 15- $ 20

Estimated Time Cook:
15 – 20 Mins

Process:

How tasty it is: 8. Hot dog flavor is not really my thing, so I need a lot of other flavors to disguise its natural taste a little and make it tastier. Sweet alternatives like corn and soy sauce are good ones. I highly enjoyed this meal.

How healthy it is: 7. It has a good source of protein and not so much carbs, depending on how you serve it. There is this story that hot dogs aren’t healthy, and I agree, but there are other over processes sources, and it’s cheap.

Suggestions: You can replace Cream Cheese for Sour Cream and Tortilla Wraps for Pita Bread.
